Couldn’t agree more. Within Scrum framework, I emphasize that the retro is singlehandedly the most important ceremony of all. It allows the team to reflect and get better. Breaking the ice is difficult but once it is done - nothing but fireworks.
Retros are perhaps my most favorite part of the scrum/sprint. You are right, it takes awhile to get honest about what we discuss and building trust with the team to speak truth to power.
